Navigating the Hazmat Interface
Overview: This document is to give a better understanding how to navigate entering hazmat material information within Helipass.
When a user is creating cargo in the Helipass system, whether it is a cargo check-in, cargo request, or manually adding cargo to a trip, they have the opportunity to assign the proper hazardous UN number and description to it.
The hazmat icon will pop open a window like it normally would do, except now there is more options for the user to fill out. These different fields are not necessarily required, however, it is crucial to fill them in correctly to meet government regulations.
After opening up the hazmat popup window, you will see the same 3 fields that you see today followed by a Hazmat Details drop down, and packaging group drop down, the description of item, and the emergency response guide.
- Select the checkbox to the right of Hazardous
- Find the proper hazmat item in the UN finder
- Select the Hazmat Details that are appropriate (list will be filtered down to only those that match the UN Number selected
- Select the packing group if one is not auto selected based on the UN Number
- Edit the description as needed for proper identification on the export
- Fill in the Classification of the item based on the item (description will give the proper codes to use)
- Fill in the Sub Classification of the item based on the item (description will give the proper codes to use)
- Enter the Emergency Response Guide page number referenced for the item
Select the UN Number and Hazmat Details first. These two choices will provide the rest of the details that can be used to fill in the remaining fields.
The description will be auto-built based on the UN Number and Hazmat Details selected. Be sure to read through the description and remove/add any information that needs to based on the specific shipment being addressed.
Note: Any free text changes to the description will be overwritten if the UN Number or Hazmat Details are changed.
For users that are using the Marine Manifesting module, this description will be displayed on the Bill of Lading export for a motor vessel trip.
For users not using Marine Manifesting, or for non-marine trips, there will be no changes to your reports. You may continue to only enter in the first 3 fields without having any impacts to your processes today.
