The HeliPass Flight Lifecycle

In HeliPass, flights have a lifecycle.  They pass thorough the stages of their lifecycle in sequence until they have been completed.  Operators differ in how they manage flights, and the flight lifecycle in HeliPass allows the system to accommodate these differences easily.

The HeliPass Flight Lifecycle includes:

  • Flight Scheduling
    • Flights can be scheduled in advance as part of a recurring flight schedule, or they can be scheduled on-demand as ad-hoc flights.
  • Requesting
    • Passenger requests are generally created by offshore logistics personnel based on a crew schedule or based on the facility's needs.  Requests generally include the passengers being requested, their origin and destination, the cost code their trip will be assigned to, and the date when they'll be needed.
    • Cargo requests, like passenger requests, are usually created by offshore logistics personnel.  Like passenger requests, they include origin, destination, and cost code.  Depending on contents, cargo may also need to be marked as hazardous materials or HAZMAT.  Cargo marked as HAZMAT must also include UN Number, Classification, and Sub-Classification information.
  • Reserving
    • Once a request has been created for a passenger or a piece of cargo, the request is fulfilled by creating a reservation.  In the reservation process, a requested passenger/cargo is placed on an actual scheduled flight.  In some cases this is performed by the person who created the request, or it might be performed by someone else.
  • Check-In
    • When a passenger arrives at a heliport for their outbound flight, or at a designated departure point to board their inbound flight, the passenger goes through the check-in process.
    • At the heliport (and in some offshore facilities), the passenger will check-in for their flight using a HeliPass Kiosk.  The passenger will present identification using the automated ID readers on the kiosk, weigh themselves and provide any additional information or confirmations required by following on-screen prompts, and will complete any security-related procedures (drug screening, etc.) required by operator policies.  The passenger will then remain in a waiting area until briefing/flight time.
    • In facilities where there is no HeliPass kiosk in use, passengers are checked in manually using the HeliPass website.
  • Flight time
    • Prior to flight boarding, passengers will attend briefing.  Once briefing is complete, they will proceed to the flight line and board their flights.  At this point cargo and passenger bags are loaded on to the flight as well and depart for their destination.
